On behalf of We Canada, we would like to extend an invitation for you to attend A Journey for Canadian Leadership at Rio+20with keynote address by Severn Cullis-Suzuki, the girl who silenced the world at the historic 1992 Rio Earth Summit.

She will talk about how the world has changed since then, and will explore the new challenges we face. She will also highlight the role of civil society in democracy and sustainable development, and the opportunities we have to live fairly within the ecological carrying capacity of the planet.

The Canadian Earth Summit Coalition has been the focal point for Canadian civil society in the lead-up to Rio+20. The side event is an opportunity for the Coalition to present highlights of its We Canada initiative – an ambitious public engagement and policy development strategy.

During the event, we will:
  • showcase a comprehensive report detailing priorities of 8,000 Canadians from public dialogues,
  • preview a short “Rio+20 cut” of a documentary of the We Canada journey, including interviews with young Canadians,
  • discuss the process of developing and proposing policy initiatives, and
  • hear from Ms. Severn Cullis-Suzuki, We Canada Champion and sustainability advocate, who will provide a keynote address and Q & A session
In addition to highlighting policy priorities, the event will be an opportunity to share best practices for cross-country public engagement and coalition-building.
